FAQ If your question isn't answered below, please e-mail AutoWindow and ask!
Yes, but we picked a new name as we began to support different makes of
car - AutoWindow has expanded beyond just Volkswagens. Our new name reflects
the variety of new products we support over a wider range of brands.
AutoWindow is an aftermarket product designed specifically for Volkswagen
built cars, including: New Beetle, 1998+ Passat, 1999.5+ Jetta / Bora, and Golf / Mk4 and 2000+ SEAT Leon, and 1998+ SKODA Superb, Octavia. (Stay tuned for new arrivals!) The car must have electric windows and
door locks with remote entry system. Optional sunroof is supported on all
models. Folding exterior mirrors are supported with Reflex model.
No other remote is needed. AutoWindow works using your existing car remote. AutoWindow attaches to the car's remote entry system and reads signals
to performs new actions.
Yes. AutoWindow commands use the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on your remote in new sequences and ways. You can also do AutoWindow commands using the key in a door
lock by turning the key to lock and unlock in these same sequences. Some
AutoWindow functions are sensor-driven and require no direct remote input
once the functions are enabled.
No modification or re-coding of the remote required. No dealer visit. AutoWindow is immediately usable after you
install it.
Yes. A replacement remote must be properly trained to your vehicle (see
vehicle manual) and then it can also work with AutoWindow. Only the remotes
that match your vehicle will work for AutoWindow commands.
No different than your existing remote. AutoWindow commands work in the same range as normal LOCK and UNLOCK actions. It won't extend or reduce transmission
distances nor does AutoWindow affect reception quality of existing remotes.
AutoWindow Cool+ temperature control features can be working while you
are away from the car.
AutoWindow is design to allow LOCK, UNLOCK, TRUNK/HATCH, and ALARM/PANIC
buttons to continue to do their normal function. AutoWindow listens to the LOCK and UNLOCK signals to performing window
commands. You can modify AutoWindow commands using SETUP but this does
not modify normal remote entry functions of the car.
No. All windows respond equally to AutoWindow commands. You cannot command individual windows from the
remote.
Yes, AutoWindow will close but not open the sunroof. CLOSE and VENT commands both close it unless STOP is used. The sunroof
closes after all windows are closed. Sunroof won't open with remote control
- the OPEN command leaves the sunroof where it is.
Venting is adjustable from about 1" to 3" gap. Actual size varies per vehicle and
there may be small differences per window on the car but this is normal.
Rear windows always vent less than front windows because of a gear differences.
The sunroof doesn't VENT at all - it will stay shut during all venting
activity.
The main AutoWindow module installs inside the driver's door. Access is gained by removing the interior door panel. (Upgrading speakers
or front window tinting are excellent opportunities for installing AutoWindow
since the door panels will already be off for those jobs.) Some models
come with other pieces for installing at the fuse panel, door panel, or
windshield for specific features.
Allow 2 to 4 hours (model depending) to complete the installation using common tools. Detailed instructions walk you through door panel removal and module
wiring with color code charts for your car. Quality automotive wire taps
are included to make quick and reliable electrical connections without
the need for soldering car wires. An Installation Wizard and status LED
on the AutoWindow module will confirm each wire as it is attached to the
car. This makes for trouble-free installation and will help pinpoint any
problem so it can be corrected before continuing with the install.
Yes. AutoWindow SETUP programming allows you to disable all window commands in less than a minute using just two button presses on the remote. The same process is used
later to enable commands again. There is no need to access the module or
change any wiring to suspend AutoWindow. Disabling AutoWindow returns the
car to stock LOCK and UNLOCK operation from the remote.
AutoWindow reads the remote entry and security systems of the car in order to operate. Some European cars do not have factory alarms installed
but the necessary wiring harness is available for AutoWindow to work. If
your car does not have a blinking alarm LED on the driver's door we recommend
contacting support for instructions to add an LED for optimal operation
of AutoWindow.
No, AutoWindow is transparent to servicing tools. Its memory cannot be accessed or erased by dealer tools. The only way
AutoWindow can be changed is by programming from the remote or key belonging to the car. Since AutoWindow's presence
is not obvious to technicians please inform them of its function and/or
disable AutoWindow while vehicle is in for service.
No, the heat sensor inside all AutoWindow Cool+ models is all that is
needed for temperature control features to work. This sensor is self contained
and does not attach to anything else in the car.
Cool+ and Classic models equipped with the Rain Sense option will close windows that have been vented by AutoWindow if it rains
on the windshield where the sensor is mounted. We recommend mounting the
sensor high and center in a clear glass area on the windshield.
Yes, but a special connector is required to adapt your Rain Tracker to
AutoWindow so both can use the same sensor. Please email AutoWindow before
ordering if you need to do this.
No, AutoWindow requires the better quality OEDES Rain Sensor for its Rain
Sense option. This sensor is included in your package when this option
is purchased.
