AutoWindow adds new functions to your car's remote entry system. All AutoWindow models have remote window control and can be configured from the remote. Some features are common to all models, and other models have unique features you can learn about on the Products page. Click on a feature to learn more.

Remote Window Commands

All AutoWindow models read the remote UNLOCK and LOCK buttons to form window commands. "Switchblade" and "keyshape" remote styles both work without modification. Buttons continue to work as usual for un/locking doors each time they are pressed. When an AutoWindow command is recognized windows and sunroof do as described. The last button pressed on the remote is how door locks will remain after window motion completes.

(3 unlocks)	OPEN	Unlocks all doors, opens all windows (sunroof stays still), and disarms the car alarm.
(unlock lock)	CLOSE*	Locks all doors, closes all windows and sunroof (if equipped), and arms the car alarm.
(unlock unlock lock)	VENT*	Available on Cool+ and Classic models only. Locks all doors, closes sunroof (if equipped), opens windows a crack, and arms the car alarm.
*These commands have a self-imposed 15 second time limit for use after closing the driver's door, but this restriction can be relaxed by changing a SETUP option. Sequential presses for AutoWindow commands are paced using a "natural" cadence. Pausing too long (>1.5s) between buttons or pressing buttons too rapidly (<0.5s) discards the command attempt.

While any remote window command is running, press...
(unlock )	STOP	Aborts the command and immediately halts window/sunroof motion, unlocks door/s**, and disarms the car. (** Number of doors depends on VAG tool Selective Unlocking setting - see dealer.)

If CLOSE or VENT commands are running, press...
(unlock unlock)	RETRACT	STOP, then reverses window travel (drops all windows down fully), unlocks all doors, disarms car.

WARNING: There is risk of injury operating electric windows. Please judge your situation carefully (family, occupants, pets) and review AutoWindow safety features. Use or restrict commands accordingly - see SETUP options.

Smart Touch Commands

All AutoWindow models have Smart Touch for less fumbling on remote buttons and added convenience. A single button press (lock) commands windows/sunroof - works on all cars. Smart Touch is off by default and must be enabled with SETUP prior to use.

() (lock..)	ONE-TOUCH UP	Press LOCK within 15 seconds after shutting the driver's door (2001 and earlier cars press and hold LOCK for 2 seconds) and ONE-TOUCH UP performs CLOSE. (Cool+ and Classic models can optionally perform VENT - see SETUP for ONE-TOUCH UP command selection.)
(lock)	VENT-CLOSE	(Available on Cool+ and Classic models only.) This command closes windows when they are vented, car then stays locked and armed.

Setup and Configuration

AutoWindow is ready-to-use after installation and is always "on" with default settings. A Programming Lockout will prevent factory settings from being changing unless it is removed. If you enjoy using AutoWindow as shipped leave this lockout in place. To change any option you must first remove the lockout to permit SETUP from the remote.

You can customize AutoWindow for different safety, convenience, and security needs using SETUP. "Soft switch" settings enable/disable AutoWindow actions. Change options whenever you like - they remain in effect until changed again. Replacing the Programming Lockout at any time will restore all settings to factory default values.

Cool+ and Classic models: After the SETUP flash, the car alarm LED near driver's door lock darkens, and after a few moments begins to blink a pattern that displays AutoWindow settings. Pressing UNLOCK after viewing a setting will change its value.
TT/RS, Basic, and Reflex models: After the SETUP flash, you have five seconds to press UNLOCK for selecting the next mode of operation in the list: Default, POWER Pack, MASTER Off.

User guide with your package describes all available options for your model. Some of the things you can customize are as follows: (Not all options shown here are available on all AutoWindow models).

• DOWN Control. Enable/disable window "down" actions: OPEN, VENT, RETRACT, and Cool+ temperature controlled commands. Disabling DOWN means no matter what AutoWindow cannot open windows. Stock methods for opening windows (key lock twisting and interior window buttons) always work regardless of this option setting.
• UP/CLOSE Control. Enable/disable window "up" and sunroof "close" actions of the CLOSE, VENT, and Cool+ temperature controlled venting commands. Disabling UP/CLOSE means AutoWindow cannot roll windows up. Stock methods for closing windows/sunroof work as usual regardless this setting.
• Vent Control. Enable/disable just the VENT commands on the Classic and Cool+ models without affecting any other AutoWindow commands on these models.
• Smart Touch ON/OFF. Enable/disable all the "one-button" Smart Touch commands: ONE-TOUCH UP, VENT-CLOSE, THERMO-CLOSE and THERMO-STOP (if equipped). Disabling Smart Touch does not affect the basic multi-button AutoWindow commands: OPEN, VENT, CLOSE and THERMO-CYCLE (if equipped).
• ONE-TOUCH UP Command Selection. For Classic and Cool+ models only, sets the function of ONE-TOUCH UP as either CLOSE (default) or VENT. (If neither action is desired you can turn Smart Touch off entirely, see above.)
• Remove 15 second time restriction. Extends CLOSE, VENT, and THERMO-CYCLE commands (as equipped) to be issued past the time period expiring 15 seconds after shutting the driver's door.
• VENT gap Increase. For Classic and Cool+ only. Set all VENT commands to open windows a little bit wider than the default amount to let more air flow.
• VENT gap Decrease. For Classic and Cool+ only. VENT commands open windows a bit less than the default amount. In total, three different vent gap sizes are available to choose from.
• MASTER On/Off. Enable/disable all AutoWindow functions. Return the car's remote entry system back to stock - recommended for servicing, valet parking, and loaning your car to unfamiliar drivers.
• Temperature regulation modes. (Cool+ model only.) Enable/disable THERMO-CYCLE or THERMO-CLOSE mode.

Factory preprogrammed selections available upon request. Your choice of applicable settings (determined by model) may be specified at order time at no charge. These settings will become active immediately after removing the Programming Lockout.

Safety Features

AutoWindow has been carefully designed to provide a safe operating environment when used with care and attention. Safety-related options have been selected as conservative factory defaults that cannot be accidentally altered without physically removing a Programming Lockout.

• AutoWindow remote commands, Cool+ temperature controlled commands, and SETUP only work while the car is parked, ignition off, and key has been removed from the ignition after running the car. There is no possibility of accidental, distracting, or conflicting use of windows when the car is running.
• A single MASTER switch option can be used from the remote to quickly prohibit all AutoWindow controlled functions, effectively "disconnecting" AutoWindow from the car without having to access any wires.
• Command pattern consistency minimizes the chance of accidental window action by user selecting the wrong command. Operations that close windows/sunroof always end with LOCK press, operations that open windows always end with an UNLOCK press.
• STOP command can be used for panic/emergencies. This command cannot be disabled or changed using any combination of options, it always performs as follows:
  • STOP: Press UNLOCK to halt windows immediately for any remote window command any time windows (or sunroof) are operating under the control of AutoWindow.
  • RETRACT: (optionally) pressing UNLOCK again after halting windows that were closing or venting will fully retract windows - roll them all down. Retraction cannot be stopped once initiated.
  • After STOP or RETRACT: doors are unlocked allowing quick access to car interior.
• By default, commands capable of closing window/sunroof are time restricted to only work within 15 seconds after shutting the driver's door - while the driver is still in the vicinity of the car to observe and react accordingly to emergencies.
• SETUP allows selective and complete restriction of just those commands that close windows/sunroof - to protects occupants and property against accidental remote closure.
• Designed for stock vehicle compatibility - nonconflicting use of lock controls, remote keyless entry, interior power door lock buttons, key lock mechanisms (including window rollup/rolldown), interior door lock knobs, rear child safety locks, stock window and sunroof controls, power window buttons, driver's express up/down feature, child lock-out switch, interior anti-pinch protection, and sunroof options.

Read your car manual and safety notices regarding use of power controlled equipment. Select AutoWindow programmable options that suit your particular safety needs - consider children, pets, etc. playing in or near the car and keep the remote out of reach at all times.

Security Features

AutoWindow has been carefully designed to provide a secure operating environment:

• AutoWindow commands and SETUP work from stock remote control/s that are coded to match your car.
• AutoWindow uses the car's built-in security features for wireless communication and does not interfere or diminish the security of this system.
• SETUP allows selective and complete restriction of window opening actions to prevent any accidental opening from the remote.
• Designed for stock vehicle compatibility - nonconflicting use of lock controls, remote keyless entry, interior power door lock buttons, key lock mechanisms (including window rollup/rolldown), interior door lock knobs, rear child safety locks.
• Compatible with and functionally integrated to stock vehicle alarm. The alarm gets armed after using the following window commands: CLOSE, VENT, VENT-CLOSE, THERMO-CYCLE, THERMO-CLOSE and THERMO-STOP.
• Temperature controlled window regulation suspends action and blocks window movement if the car alarm gets deactivated while you are away from the car.
• VENT gap size is adjustable to limit the size of objects that may enter the car while vented.
• Retains remote window capabilities for customized cars having "blanked" exterior locks (cylinders removed), or even completely "skinned" door handles. Contact support@autowindow.com for any unique or car customization needs.

Installation

Package ships with printed Installation manual step-by-step instructions and diagrams intended for people having little or no experience with car installations. Web picture galleries show how! No electrical tools are required. The job can be done in two to four hours (depends on model) using common tools such as screwdrivers and pliers. No permanent car modifications or dealer visit is required to finish installation - simply add AutoWindow and start using it!

• AutoWindow module is about 2" square and installs discretely inside the driver's door and remains out of sight. (Reflex module is slightly larger.) See Beetle door panel removal or Golf/Jetta/Bora/Passat, detailed in the guide.
• 3M Scotchlok high quality wiretaps designed for automotive applications are included for your convenience. These connectors use regular pliers for crimping to car wires without any splicing or soldering.
• Status LED shows installation progress and is used for diagnostics. Follow an Installation Wizard as each wire gets attached to the car and the status LED shows if a good connection was made to the correct car wire. This removes any guesswork and makes electrical installation easy - even for beginners! After installation the status LED shows diagnostics and is helpful for problem determination with support.
• Cool+ model includes temperature sensor internal to the unit.
• Brite model includes a relay kit that installs at the fuse panel to control headlights.
• TT/RS model includes wires and connectors to tap your Turbo Timer and Remote Start wires.
• Nite Sense option includes a 3mm (1/8") optical sensor for detecting daylight, to be mounted discretely on the driver's door.
• Rain Sense option is about 1" square sensor that sticks to the windshield for detecting rain, and includes cable to attach to AutoWindow module. Windshield replacement requires purchase of remount kit.
• AutoWindow is connected inside the driver's door, works for Left Hand Drive (LHD) and Right Hand Drive (RHD) cars built for any country. Reflex model requires removal of both door panels to access folding mirror connectors and includes cabling and connectors to run between doors.
• A Programming Lockout prevents factory default settings from changing unless you want. The lockout jumper may be removed after installation to enable SETUP for making option changes.
